Chicken Jockey Comes To Minecraft Dungeons Arcade & Marvel: Contest of Champions Gets Series 3 Cards
Raw Thrills has announced two new series of cards for a couple of their card vending arcade games, one for Minecraft Dungeons Arcade and the other for Marvel: Contest of Champions. Neither of these cards were at IAAPA, nor hinted at – until now. Let’s see what these are all about!
The Chicken Jockey Joins Minecraft Dungeons Arcade
If it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long since Raw released Series 4 cards, that’s because they only shipped out last May/June. This makes a new series on Minecraft one of the quickest, however, there is a big caveat here compared to previous series releases – there is only one new card as a part of the package.
Behold, the infamous Chicken Jockey, which is the sole card being added to Series 5. Think of it as Series 4 with an additional, super rare card:
This brings the total number of Minecraft cards up to 144. According to the description I was sent, it is “the most powerful pet available in the game,” and it’s the first “Legendary” card, although it is unknown exactly how many are being printed to denote the overall rarity. You can find the official Media Kit for it here.

Unlike previous series, they are not including a physical floor poster with a Series 5 purchase, although Raw Thrills has a digital one that you can use both online and to print your own poster if you would like. Also as it mentions in the flyer, they are including a translite, which is easy to swap out on the machine itself. This is available to order now from your preferred Minecraft card source.
Marvel: Contest of Champions Series 3
Perhaps the bigger surprise is the roll out of a new series of cards for Raw Thrills’ Marvel: Contest of Champions. This game was a Dave & Busters exclusive for five years, before becoming available to the rest of the market. It’s been on Series 2 cards ever since, but this will help the game catch up with the likes of Injustice Arcade.

Per the info shared, there are “40 brand new cards”, which brings this up to a total of 240 to collect. That is the same amount as Injustice Arcade (which got as high as Series 4), and almost 100 cards ahead of Minecraft. Operators can also get a new card banner if they fill out a form, and new translite art will be included with their purchase of a card kit. The Media Kit for the new series can be found here.

There is also a major software update that comes with this, which does more than simply add the cards into the mix. The game now includes a “Single Player Story Mode”, which introduces different game paths (shown below) as well as Boss Battles for higher replay value if you’re wanting to explore the game alone. This also turns the game more into a “proper” fighting game, since those tend to have such modes built into them, although whether or not they’ve changed the game mechanics was not mentioned.

As a personal aside, I would doubt that, since part of the appeal on this one is to reach the masses, although Marvel always had a one-up on Injustice Arcade in that regard, given that it uses a joystick to move your character around. It will be interesting to see if they’ve made additional changes to how this plays.
If you have one of these games for your venue, then it’s a no brainer to get these updates, although we’ll have to wait and see what fans think about the additions and changes. What are your thoughts on them so far?
