Welcome to Newsbytes, a regular series of posts which focus on quick news pieces from around the wonderful world of arcades & pinball. As covered in Make: Things newsletter (Orlando’s WonderLab: A New Kind...
CNC machinery and hand tools are often at two ends of the spectrum when it comes to woodworking. CNC machines offer precision and complexity, though usually at the cost of bulky equipment and, well, money. Hand tools offer affordability and flexibility at the cost of tedious mastery. While it’s been a slow news period for the summer, that doesn’t mean that nothing it happening behind-the-scenes within the arcade world. We have three games on test to discuss today, known as “location tests” in arcade industry jargon. It’s our way of saying “beta test”, although in some instances a concept might be more in the alpha stages. Those three games, which we’ll cover in this order, are: Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot (Capcom/Bandai Namco) NEW!! Pop’n Music (Konami) Forklift Frenzy (Bay...
This article is from Make Vol. 71! Subscribe now to make sure you don’t miss out on any of our awesome builds. When your function generator dies, you never know what you’ll find inside. Maybe it will be a blown tantalum capacitor, or maybe it will be an ongoing art project with followers all over social media. In his case, engineer Eric Schlaepfer found both. He wanted to see if there was an obvious failure point...
A few years ago, Sega Amusements broadened their horizons into social entertainment by partnering with another UK-based company by the name of 501 Entertainment, inking a deal to bring out their augmented reality-incorporating SMARTS Interactive Darts system.
